Stude Gets Probation In Death Of Singer Buckley
Los Angeles, March 9

Folksinger Tim Buckley's death last June of an overdose of heroin resulted Friday (5) in a five-year probation for Richard Keeling, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

To stay out of jail, however, Keeling will have to comply with several conditions. One of the terms imposed by Judge Charles H. Woodmansee of Santa Monica Superior Court requires him to work part-time as an elementary school teacher's assistant.

Keeling is a graduate student at the U. of California at Los Angeles. A suspended 120-day jail sentence will hang over him at least until Sept. 1. A coroner's autopsy revealed Buckley's death stemmed from a combination of heroin and alcohol.
