'Siren' selected for new Peter Jackson release

Tim Buckley Music and Opus 19 o/b/o Third Story Music have reached an agreement with Oscar winner Peter Jackson’s Wingnut Productions for the use of This Mortal Coil’s version of Song to the Siren in the soon-to be released feature film The Lovely Bones.

Based on the best-selling book by Alice Sebold, The Lovely Bones is the story of a 14-year-old girl from suburban Pennsylvania, murdered by her neighbor. She tells the story from Heaven, showing the lives of the people around her and how they have changed all while attempting to get someone to find her lost body.

Jones directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with longtime collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Saoirse Ronan, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Thomas McCarthy Jake Abel and Michael Imperioli.

Per a long-standing policy of 4AD Records founder Ivo Watts, Song to the Siren will not appear on any soundtrack release.

The Lovely Bones will open in an Oscar-friendly December limited release in the US, New Zealand and Australia, with a worldwide release scheduled for January.
