thanks for a truly interesting site; easy to navigate and the guitar tab feature is excellent.
Has anyone worked out Dolphins yet?; I heard it for the first time yesterday and its really sublime.
Shame starsailor is n't on cd release; Why? surely it's one of his most famous albums.

Love the site, but have to agree with Paul. Why exactly is it that Blue Afternoon and Starsailor are unavailable on CD? Is it a label thing? I admit that Starsailor isn't exactly mainstream stuff, but surely it warrants wider exposure!
So - if you know - (1) who could release these albums, if they wanted to, and (2) why don't they do it?
Keep on.

I was living at 1626 Haight Street in 1968 and spent most of my evenings at The Winterland Ballroom. From the moment I heard Tim Buckley's voice I was mesmerized! I don't remember who else was on the bill one night I came to party but I looked up and spotted Tom Donahue, "Big Daddy," Tim and Janey, deep in conversation. My escort for the evening was Gary Jackson, manager of The Charlatans, so we just bopped over and chatted for quite the while as we carried on an animated conversation. I remember just how gorgeous Tim was and how completely modest and subdued. I was informed later that he'd already begun drinking and doing smack but this was heresay.
I do recall that I asked Tim to please sing "And it Happens Everytime" and he related that he didn't know the lyrics offhand. I was heartbroken when I heard that he'd overdosed-what a waste of such a beautiful and talented man. Dian Hill Melzer

Hello, my name is Bettie and I am writing to you from Hamburg (Germany). I just discovered your site and I find it really great, even if I did not read it throughly yet. I discovered Tim' s music some years ago first (I am 40, therefore a little too young to know him for a long time), nevertheless it touched me on the spot. His voice is (even if I should say "was") one of the greatest things I ever experienced. Such a sad thought to know, he already passed away...Kind regards to everbody on this pages. I saw him many times live and had all of his albums.
He could blow you away with his singing and captivate an audience with his charisma and rhythm,
truly one of the most original and hypnotic performers ever. He blended folk, rock and jazz in a style all his own.

listen to this lady. She is my spirit guide and I am in direct contact with her. Thanks to everyone who listened so hard to my music when I was alive and after. I am overwhelmed by technology these days but listen to this. My son Jeff has been reunited with me on the other side by this lady who is in England. We are both completely rested souls.
Jeff died drowning and I thought I hadf seen him a couple of weeks before at a gig but it wasnt him. I just want to say to everybody that my death was really my doing in a lot of ways and the same for baby buckley. This is the name that our guide has given him. Interestingly she is also my wife from a previous life and she is also Jeff's mother too from a life before. He and I want to thank Mary Guibert for putting together Sweetheart the Drunk. Thanks Mary. And Jeff says thanks to Merri for the new book but there were too many pictures when only one would have done. He hated the adulation.

Hi there...I'm a singer/songwriter, and folks kept comparing me to this Tim Buckley guy..(I also sometimes heard Jeff Buckley from folks as well), but I had no clue as to who in the heck either of them were..However, somebody gave me a nice disc of Tim's, and I really enjoyed it..I've also listened to Jeff's stuff and found it very interesting. It's a pity that both left the world too soon..However, I'm grateful this site exists, because now I can learn some of the exquisite songs Tim wrote..What I find very cool is that Tim tuned his guitar down so low, which is what I've been doing for years..Perhaps that was the reason folks thought my stuff was similar ??? Anyways, thanks for a wonderful site, feel free to drop by mine sometime !!

It would be great if you were to include some passages from Lee Underwood's book, Blue Melody: Tim Buckley Remembered.
Lee knew Tim better than perhaps any other of his friends. He shows great insight into Tim's thinking and aesthetic development and into many of the people who surrounded him.
Without Lee's input, we are saddled with a kind of glittery, superficial fanzine haze of misplaced idolatry that ignores the harsh realities of Tim's childhood, the commercial arena in which he found himself, the struggles he endured to become the extraordinary artist that he was, and the nature of that fickle beast, the so-called "fans" who cried out only for ego-reinforcement, not artistic evolution and all but hanged him when he demonstrated his loyalty to music instead of cheap adulation.
Lee's Blue Melody gives Tim's story honestly and passionately, with enormous depth of insight, unbounded respect for the truth, and with profound love and respect for Tim the man and the artist. It would help this site immensely if you were to share some of the reviews that have appeared on Amazon.com and elsewhere, and included a few passages from the book equal in length to those you display from other works.
Lee was there (as Tim's lead guitarist); he writes brilliantly; he may well be one of the few,
if not the only one, who truly knew Tim well.

I am so happy that the internet provides me a way to reach out. I am looking to replace all my albums to C/D's but, of course, am having a hard time. I remember when Goodby and Hello was available (I was turned onto it in 1972) I bought copies for everyone and three for myself so that I could have an unscratched one. I used to by somtimes 20 albums a week and master disks.. My favorite artist and favorite album was Tim Buckley's. I had turned so many people onto him. We were just waiting to see the concert or so. I saw Bruce Springstein in Atlanta eating Filet Mignon and then at the Carter Barron in Washington, D.C. and always thought I would follow Tim. Boy.. was sad and down when Tim was gone. I only hope now to find the albums on C.D.'s. I still have my (large) collection. But haven't yet figured out how to get that to master disk. Sure the time will be soon to do that.

This site is quite good. I have recently gotten back into Tim's music after about a six year(!) hiatus. I bought ALL of his cds when they were all available back in 1989-1990 (including Starsailor & Blue Afternoon). I also have videos of him on the "Boboquavari" PBS program from September 1971, as well as him singing "No Man Can Find the War" from a 1967-68 documentary on the US music scene.
Back to the albums: "Starsailor" was so revolting when I first heard it, so I put it in my closet for 9 months and finally decided it was a masterpiece after I became instantly obsessed with "Lorca" and retrieved "Starsailor" and have loved it ever since.
The early 90s found me listening to Buckley every day and for several hours! The period of 1990-1994 was my "Time of Buckley" and I've never listened to another artist so intensely, before or since. I've been getting re-acquainted with Tim lately and his music has lost none of its power. I like all the Buckley music, but my favorites remain "Dream Letter: Live in London, 1968", "Greetings from L.A.", and of course, "Starsailor". "Greetings" in particular disturbs me because I can hear the manic depression in Tim's lyrics and vocals, anyone that geared up on sex and howling like a madman can't be anything but down in the world. "Make it Right" being the most vivid example, followed closely by Starsailor's "Down By the Borderline" (my favorite Tim song, period.) Anyhow, thanks so much for providing a forum for us Buckley listeners. I'm glad his music hasn't been cheapened by commercialism and shameless "rediscovering" and name dropping pseudo-intellectual trendy yuppie types. But by now, nothing can ruin my love of Tim's music. Thanks.

Tim as living archetype of the pursuit of honest truth over all commerciality - good example for the culture at large, beautiful songs (all of them!), amazing voice and amazing sounds from it - Starsailor is outside genius, Blue Afternoon is inside genius, but a genius can't make anything but genius even if the market wants him/her to... Thanks for keeping the (star)light shining...

David Gladwin, the most likely people to release "Starsailor" and "Blue Afternoon" on CD would probably be Rhino Handmade (who produce limited edition reissues of obscure, noncommercial music). Probably, Rhino Handmade have not received requests for them.
They could produce a limited edition of say 6,000 copies of the two albums on one CD ("Starsailor" and "Blue Afternoon" could fit together on one CD) if they were requested to.
David, it is "a label thing". "Starsailor" and "Blue Afternoon" were issued on Frank Zappa's Straight label before it disintegrated in the early 1970s and was swallowed by Warner Brothers. mianfeinàn

I can remember an album by Tim when I was in high school it had to have been in 69 or 70, the name of the album was "MY MOTHER THE MOUNTAIN" I've only seen reference to this one other time and it was a short segment in a local music mag stating they were going to rerelease it but only in New York. Everyone acts like I'm crazy when I ask about this album. I see you don't have it listed either, is there anyone besides me who remembers this album and can get me a copy. texadillo53@yahoo.com

Tim's pursuit in the field of Art, has left a lasting impression on the world, a legacy that his son Jeff, carried on, opening new avenues, and insight into the amazing dimensions of Art. Thankyou for making my hero's and biggest role models so easily accessible.
Soul.

Hi: Great site. I saw Tim in Washington DC as the openning act for Frank Zappa. It was one of the best if not the best concert I ever attended.Buckley voice was not of this world. He was doin material from GFLA,when zappa came on with his band it was like going from light speed to walking. What a loss.

Hey
Im a great fan of Tim Buckley, and I still havent found any contemporary artist that can match his voice and expression,- when I listen to him I cant help feeling sad that he isnt around anymore!. Im from Denmark and im 49, but when I was in my twenties i listened to Tim Buckley because my boyfrind had some of his records,- it is only within the latest 5 years I have refound his captivating music, I have tried to get hold of his cds here in Aalborg, but some of them are hard to get,- does anybody now a good source?? I rediscovered Tim Buckley recently-- I listened to his music earlier in my life, then lost track of it. I recently bought "Hello and Goodbye" and was just knocked out by it-- he was so ahead of his time. I wonder why no other artist has covered any of his songs-- they're absolutely beautiful. Though no one could ever present them the way Tim did. I'm glad others appreciate his music, too. And very sad that he's gone.

Longtime Tim Buckley fan who just wants to pipe in and say that these days Lorca is my favorite TB album, and I can't recommend it highly enough. It's not quite as out of control as Starsailor, deeper than his early albums, and more atmospheric and consistent than Blue Afternoon. LORCA RULES!

Hi all,
Thanks for the great site and tribute to the fine genius that is Tim. I stumbled across the man a few years ago and can't (and never will) put him to rest. Such vision. artistic beauty both in voice lyrics and his physical presence. It's a shame that a lot of his work is still not available on cd, though if you know where to look (as i do) you shouldn't have much trouble locating his music on File-sharing networks.
Thanks again for your contribution to Tim's rememberence and appreciation.
Well done.

thanks for doin this...Buckley played 12-string with the maddness of inspiration and sang with the kind of passion only Laura Nyro could match...they were, to me, the spiritual poets of the '60's. I miss them, but thx to guys like you, they still can inspire those of us who were more mutable and survuved the "antique people"...

EVERY ONCE AND AWHILE YOU HEAR ONE OF TIM'S SONGS ON THE RADIO OR BEING USED AS BACKGROUND MUSIC IN A DOCUMENTARY. I HEARD "ONCE I WAS" THE OTHER DAY IN THE BACKGROUND OF A SHOW ON THE VIET NAM WAR. THAT SONG BROUGHT BACK A FLOOD OF MEMORIES AND FEELINGS I HAVEN'T FELT IN YEARS. IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS ONLY YESTERDAY THAT THOSE EVENTS WERE HAPPENING NOT THE VERY LONG TIME IT HAS ACTUALLY BEEN. TIM'S SONGS DO THAT TO YOU...TAKES YOU BACK AND FOR A SHORT TIME YOU FEEL YOUNG AGAIN. I AM MIDDLE AGED NOW BUT THE FEELINGS FROM THOSE TIMES COME BACK. I MISS TIM BUCKLEY....DAVE PALMER

I have a collection of negatives and prints of Tim taken by Vogue photographer Jack Robinson that have never been seen before. They were taken in 1969? (I will have to check) There are close to 90 images, all good and of course professional studio candids. Only one was published in Vogue. If any one is interested you can contact me at dan@robinsonarchive.com There are 3 images on line by going through the website to the Hulton Archive link. we are currently printing limited edition fine art black & white photographs in different sizes. The editions are limited to 250. If interested contact me.
The archive is in Memphis only a mile down river from where we lost Jeff. Thanks, Dan Oppenheimer

Great site, would be even better if you could complete the guitar tabs for the rest of the songs/albums.
Also, it might be an idea to include a list of other artists/albums that have covers of Tim Buckley songs - I know the 4AD records label have put out a few, 'song to a siren' could even be described as equal if not better than the original.
Tim was great, a pity that his later albums weren't appreciated as much as they should have been, sad that he felt the need to snort heroin, thats life I guess, without it I suspect that Jeff wouldn't have turned out to be as enigmatic and amazing as he was.
Shame he liked swimming.

Hello everyone, just to help clarify things re Blue Afternoon and Starsailor. Yes, both have been released on CD.(I have Starsailor.) They were released on a label called Enigma Retro, which I seem to remember hearing about folding a few years ago...All but two of Blue Afternoon's songs are available on disc two of the Morning Glory Anthology. For 'Cafe' and 'The Train', there is always the file-sharing networks, which is where I downloaded them.Ultimately, since Rhino had access
to the masters for both of these albums for the anthology, they are probably the most likely to re-release them.Let's hope they do...
One more thing: there is a discrepancy in the dates of the Dream Letter live recording- the album says
July 10,'68.The anthology says October.(It depends how you read 10/07/68.)That said, on this very site, there is a picture of a poster for the Whiskey a Go Go in L.A. that announces Tim playing from July 3 to 13 of '68.That seems to validate the October 7 date as the correct one to me.
And on a final note: Tim's music is perhaps best appreciated on headphones. All of his albums sound great on a portable CD player, where his intimate
communions with the listener can be heard and felt at their most interior. Thanks to Tim for sharing his gifts. David (dogan1960@hotmail.com)

i first heard tim sing when watching the movie "coming home". i instantly became infatuated with the song "once i was". i waited until the credits at the end to find out who was singing this haunting song. i searched numerous record stores for his music but did not have much success. my wife and her sister watch "american dream" each sunday night and a couple of weeks ago i heard them playing it. my determination became real again and i had my son look for tim's cd at a new shopping mall in st. louis, he found one with 17 or 18 songs, including "once i was". so i am on my way to buy it in a day or two. when i first began looking for info on tim on the internet, i was very saddened to find that he had left us much too early. i found it also heartbreaking when i read of his relationship with son and his son's death. i am a man in his mid fifties (retired) but still holding on to my younger years. my hopes, dreams, and fantasies help me to keep going as i deal with life's daily issues. i have two grown sons and i am ready for grandchildren. tim's music helps me to remember the days gone by. one of my big disappointments is that tim's music is not more mainstream so that more people could have heard it. but maybe it is better this way so that mystic i associate with him may remain intact. i am using my sisiter-in-laws computer, i am the only one that uses it, so the e-mail address is not of my choosing. she is a big elvis fan. my e-mail is snyderelvis1@aol.com my first name is jimmy. thanks for listening to me. this is the first time i have ever responded to anything like this.

While listening to WDET Public Radio in Detroit, Michigan, they played "Strange Street Affair Under Blue" and....I was totally taken by the range and clairity of Tim's voice. The next day I purchased the "Tim Buckley" CD just hoping the rest of the music would be equally as interesting and pleasing. I was not let down. Every song was a pleasure to listen to. Now, I didn't know anything about Tim Buckley and had to find out more, especially, since I noticed the Album date of 1969. Thanks to your informative site...I now (sadly) know what happened to Tim Buckley. This is an exceptional Site.

What can I add? Just to say that Tim Buckley's music has touched me in a way that no other artist has done with the exception of Joni Mitchell(although it is close between the 2 of them).
I have everything of course EXCEPT Blue Afternoon and Starsailor. Why are they not available? I just cannot understand it. I used to have Starsailor on vinyl but it is worn out and unplayable.
I NEED these albums. My favourite Tim Buckley songs are Sweet Surrender(great to play when making love!!) and Lorca. The rest are all brilliant too of course. I could write all night about Tim Buckley's music.
I saw the British band 'Starsailor' play in Dublin in December. James Walsh, the lead singer has an amazing voice and could be a major 'heritage artist' if he followed his muse like Tim. He could be great. Unfortunately, he is too tempted by the 'filthy lucre' following up his first very sincere album 'Love is Here' with a VERY commercial sophomore album 'Silence is easy'.
Sorry about the stream of consciousness but......

Tim was one of the first unknown artist I heard, on his first LP. I saw it in a record shop, and after many trips, broke down, and got it. I saw Tim at THE KINETIC PLAYGROUND-CHICAGO--this was opened by the guy who produced the movie THE ROSE. I saw Tim and talked to him, the first time, at this place. He did not have his full band as yet, and got pissed off, and left the stage after a few songs. I went outside to go home, and he was there, jumpy as usual. I saw him the next time at the PLAYGROUND, with Linda Ronstad as the top bill. He did OK doing GYPSY WOMAN and so on. This was maybe at the start of the 70's. I hated his STRAIGHT RECORDS STUFF!! Not really musicial in my opinion. I like his GET ON TOP OF ME stuff he did years later. To bad that Electra put all their money on the DOORS. They were alright on the first two albums, but they went downhill fast. Tim is superior to all other folk artists, but he did not care about making his music commercial for his fans--a waste of talent!

Tim Buckley's music had an effect on me that I cannot explain. It is ingrained in who I am. It's been 35 years since I first heard him, and I am still "moved" by it. It's as vibrant for me today as it was then. This is BW, and my email is: rampart@mac.com I would love to hear from anyone who shares my feelings! Firstly, thanks for a brilliant site. I love the gallery and, being an amateur musician find the tabs section very useful.
I first heard "Once I Was" when viewing a documentary "Letters from Vietnam" and found it incredibly moving. That said, and despite nearing the 50 mark, I've only recently really discovered Tim Buckley, after buying "Dream Letter" (an amazing CD and one that isn't too hard to get hold of!). Tim's voice is truly amazing and his delivery so full of feeling. No wonder Jacques Brel was a fan! A consummate artist in every sense and almost criminally ignored - why on earth aren't "Starsailor" and "Blue Afternoon" available?
His music is timeless and surely today's young generation should have every opportunity to listen to it!

Great site...I was here to see if Tim Buckley wrote an anti-war song with the following lyrics: And they send our lovely boys to die, in a foreign jungle war...please contact me if you have the answer to this question at judyhall@aptalaska.net

I added an entry a while ago, but it wasn't very good or correct, or complete; so, here are some more thaughts: I went to the KENETIC PLAYGROUND in Chicago to see Tim. Think it was 1968. It was Tim's first visit to The Windy City. Not many people showed up: the radio stations did not give him any airplay. He had, I think, a standup bass player with him. The PLAYGROUND was mainly designed for loud bands, with a lot of audio-video stuff. Tim did not sound good at all, with the way he goes up into the high registers of his voice. He did two songs, I think, and left the stage (That's Tim!) I walked out. As I stood in the outside front, someone was behind me, and stopped. Yes! IT WAS TIM! He wanted out of there as much as me. I, of course, made a complete ass out of myself, saying stupid things like when is your next LP going to be released. So here I was talking to MY IDOL!! Maybe I did not get a complete concert, but I got to talk to Tim! I remember how jumpy he was. He appeared around the corner, at the Arigon? Ballroom, the next two times, I think. He did fine, especially with GYPSY WOMEN. Say, check out my Amazon review of his DREAM LETTER live CD, and give a listen to Jamie Clark on their downloads. I wrote many reviews of Jamie's songs. He has the best singing voice, but not as artistic as Timmy. My e-mail: ronpokatiloff@hotmail.com. Please write to me about Tim, or whatever! TAKE CARE, RON

THE SONG, THE SONG, THE HAUNTING SONG, THE REPETITIVE MELODY, about a war a viet nam war. What was that song, I can't find it, I need it, I lived it, we were it. Please which song was the difinitive Tim Buckley War Song? The Masters of War, I think were in the lyrics. He would not want that to be the one, but for me it is, just now. The voice, the quitar, the velvet blue suit and the thin, damp, yearning young man that I saw at the side of the stage at Humboldt State University in 1974 gave me a chill that I'll never forget. Strumming, strungout, and haunted, yet he moved the room.

Many years ago, like 1974, I bought an album called "Greetings from L.A." My husband now of 16 years was going through my treasured record collection and came upon this jewel. He wanted to hear it and we did not have a record player but low and behold I had recorded it onto a cassette. I started playing it and he really liked the music, a cross between blues, rock and roll and that funky guitar. I think my most favorite song is Sweet Surrender, however I like every song on this album. I decided to search online to see where you are today...low and Behold, here you are. I plan to check out your latest C/D's, concerts and great information. Thanks for some great memories and I look forward to possibly seeing you in concert. OK to email me at: ssk64@prodidy.net my name is Shelly Keith.

not a huge internet browser myself, so I'm looking for the first time. excellent to know that someone has put this together. Tim's music has been a major part of almost all of my adult life (c.35 years) and it gives an old sod like me great pleasure to know he wasn't forgotten.
So, thanks very much.
By the by, I am trying to gather the Starwood gig and the Santa Monica gigs on mp3 (my cassettes of same are worn out). can anyone help?

My all time fave...A artist that 'fit' that hackneyed phrase: Burned too brightly/like a meterorite.
I was lucky to see him live at the Egress Blues Club in Vancouver B.C. in Aug. '73 w/Lighting Hopkins If I remember.
His seminal albulm will always be : "Greetings From L.A."

Really appreciated your website.
Tim Buckley is one of my all-time top 5 artists and it always disappoints me that his music is not more widely known. I have created my own compilation CD which I play in the car a lot. I do think that not only was his voice unique, some of his more simplistic melodies are absolutely brilliant. Anyway to me he ranks alongside Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen in my catalogue.

Do you know where "The Islander" on Pacific Coast Highway is/was located?
There is an Islander on PCH in Sunset Beach (North of Huntington Beach), but there is no room 109 there at this time and the present owner has no knowledge of Tim or the famous song.
Can you shed any light on this mystery?

Well, I was not alive durring the Tim Buckley era, however it has been brought to my attention that I recently aquired Tim Buckleys old propety in Anaheim, CA. My neighbor next door told me that his mother bought the house from him in the mid to late 60's. Well she stopped by the house today and confirmed this for me. I may have to spend a little time listening to him. contact me if you wish

so, i was the guy dancing with the pretty young woman who would eventually become my exwife, - we were at the cave in vancouver, in the mid 70's.
we were the only ones on the dancefloor, and tim had a pretty black woman singing with him... when he laid onto the frets, i went into another world, and never returned, neither did he, he was not long for this world then. who knew?
so, now i am older, and still in that world. thought i would share that with you.

aye, as i go thru the site i hear about his voice, which, as a blue melody, and dolphins would attest to, was... 'so real'...
but when i saw him hit those frets i have payed attention, and have seen no other do that, like that, and def. not that fast. maybe he was wired. but he was great.
so, i guess that would have been maybe jan. of 75, as my eldest was born in nov. 75, on the east coast.
i have bought and lost 'greetings from l.a.' 3 times. i travel alot.
now i'm tryin to download it.
i'll still listen, and maybe get to the merc for a beer one day too.

as i remember, i may as well pass this along too. i had nvr heard buckley before that nite, and i loved to dance... so i danced.... seems that wasn't supposed to be, but they played and we danced, the only two on the floor... i remember the buck watchin us, and the girl singing.... then, he went into.... i really don't know what... but it was.."this is why you don't dance to us" the girl stopped singinging, and he went all out on the ax... it was beautifull... and all these years i have not forgotten. i remember going motionless, and just watchin him go all out. it was such a sight that it took to near the end of the song for me to realize that the future bitch went bk to the table.
and man, that part of life i nvr regret... maybe my son was concieved that week.
i really loved the bitch then, and sure as heck, nvr lost the savor for the buck.
heard he had a son playin, but the little guy was gone before it reached me.
i suppose i wanted to share the experience at the cave because it was a 'happening'
i am glad to read some of the experiences from other fans on this site, as i remember the cave, shots, and the buck.

Thanks for the memories

Thanks so much for the cool info. I am still one of the biggest Jeff Buckley fans and ended up here searching info on Jeff. Tim was so beautiful I really didn't know much about him. I guess we will never know the grand scheme of why these two beautiful indivuals lives were cut so short. Jeff's Cd GRACE has become a fine wine to me, so beautiful, tasteful, diverse and brilliant! One of the best. Thank You for the cool website!

I left Loara in '65 and joined the Navy. The only
time I ever saw Tim play was at the school assembly.
I never even knew that he latched on to Mary. These are the first pictures I ever saw of her without a 'cello. Interesting to see pics of Larry Beckett
and Jim Fielder, too. Why does it say Larry Beckett
of Buena Vista High school? Didn't we all go to Loara? Did he move or something? I remember
Beckett in front English class giving his report on
'Les Miserables'. He took so long nobody else had to get up. He had me squirming. Nice to see friends got famous and had lives; better than teaching fiddle, no doubt. They should've taken better care of themselves. 30 years old is still just a kid...
I saw Eddie Cochran in '59. Now I can say I saw Tim
Buckley before he got famous. Actually, I never
heard he or anyone else did become famous that came from our school. To me its a 40 year gap from there to here.
Thanks for this pictures.

Hi fellow Buckley fans. Hope you don't mind if I plug my college online radio show, in which I play both Tim and Jeff quite a lot. It is called Seductive Melancholia, and you can find it online at scadradio.org. I go on as Dr. Depresso, and the show is from 10 pm to midnight on sundays, eastern time, US. I love getting im requests, and I hope you tune in! If you like music like Tim/Jeff, The Smiths, Mark Eitzel, Lisa Germano, Leonard Cohen, Ryan Adams, Neil Young, Tom Waits and other sad sacks, you will have a ball!

I have just found a couple of reels of super 8 of Tim Buckley playing at Knebworth, plus a reel of general crowd footage.
I have had this transferred to DV and what I want to find is a recording of the gig so I can try to re-sync it, then I will give it to whoever is interested.
Any ideas?

Hey, nice site. It's good to see people passionate about music.. I only had a quick look (pressed for time). Was trying to find an album on which I believe he closed with an arquapela cover version of 'Rum & Coca Cola', but sadly couldn't find it.. (it's been eluding me for years) - I saw/heard it on a record in the 70's & haven't seen it since - any clues?

Great site. I have lost somewhere in my mind a song from one of the early albums. I wrote an English paper on it while at UCLA. I remember feeling so strongly about the song. A friend had the album and the lyrics were included. It would have had to have been 1970 or earlier. I believe I got an "A" on the paper. Wish I knew what I did with it. I was hoping I would see the lyrics and remember, but nothing clicked. Enjoyed the visit to the past. Well, they say if you can remember the 60's, you didn't really live it.
I listened to Tim's Happy/Sad when just 14 or so...I often have sung the melody "Buzzin' Fly," to people, asking if they knew or remembered the song. For me it was one of the anthems of the time, in a sweet innocent romantic way. It was an interesting time musically...Folk, R& B, Blues, Rock 'n Roll..., the whole English invasion, and then there was Tim. Who was doing that? Nobody...not like he did.
Living in Seattle before and after Nirvana hit, I discovered Jeff. I have Jeff's CD "Grace." It is quite powerful. I just saw K.D. Laing perform at the Hollywood Bowl under a blue moon..Rufus Wainwright opened, both backed by the L.A. Philharmonic. They both covered Halleluah...it was magnificant.
How often do a father and son or daughter for that matter have such talent and brilliance?
I rediscovered Tim, by accident, and happened upon a CD re-release of Happy/Sad, just today. I have played it at least 5 times in a row. The other night I stumbled upon a web site with an article in MOJO, about Tim. I had no idea of the man behind that music, quite ahead of his time. I emailed the article to two friends, both musicians to check out. Within the hour of that, a DJ on KPXP, D.J.Riz...played a cut by Tim and then one by Jeff, I emailed him and he emailed back within minutes...commenting on our synchronicity and how like minds find each other in such troubling times. Tim & Jeff are both deep and brooding, but not only that and certainly they touch the soul that needs touching and can hear, with their voices, their music.

Hallo to all Tim Buckley's fans. I'm a guy from Greece and I discovered Tim's songs after reading an article about him in a greek musical magazine a few years ago. I bought all his LP's at once and I'm still searching for some CD's. He was a true artist with the greatest voice I've ever heard, and a true poet when he says: "Everywhere there's rain, my love. Everywhere there's fear." He IS the ONE. SAVVAS V.

I lived in a cool Victorian on Sutter Street in San Francisco in the 60's. One reason I settled down there was the fact that it was just around the corner from The Winterland Ballroom. I was hanging out in the lobby between shows one night with Gary Jackson, The Charlatans manager, when Tom Donahue came up with Tim and his current amour. We all carried on and enjoyed quite an elucidating chat for a some time. Tim impressed with me with the contents of his conversation. He was amazingly shy and didn't make eye contact until I said something that made him laugh and then we sparked. He wasn't on the bill that night but I saw him everytime he came to town and flew down to El Lay as often as possible. What a shame to find out he became a junkie. What a waste. I still listen to "And it Happens Every Time" with tears and mixed memories. Dian Hill Melzer

Tim Buckley is one of my all time favorites hands down. Last year I aquired some very vare live footage of Tims which included a black and white music video of his song "Coming Home To Stay", which is amazing!, as well as a live version of "Song To The Siren and a video montage of the track "Who Do You Love?". If any one has any similar live footage or music videos to trade, I would be more than willing to make a copy of the footage I have, huge fan here!

I just wanted to say that I enjoy listening to music that makes you listen to what the words are saying. I just purchased Tim Buckley's "Goodbye and
Hello" vinyl album at a flea market for two bucks.
Songs such as "No Man Can Find The War", gives me
cause for pondering that this song was a truly
fitting anthem for the times in which it was
written. I think it is genius song writing. "Goodbye and Hello", is bit intricate, and has symolism, but seems to resonate that life moves too fast and work and striving for material wealth should take back seat to the awesome beauty of life itself and the importance of the simple joys of
life are what we should not ignore in order to
find true happiness. I enjoyed the album, and was wondering what other albums are worth hunting down that Tim Buckley released. shewdawg64@yahoo.com
I lived on Haight Street in 1968 where I worked
for the summer at the Blarney Castle fish&chips
takeout.A runaway draft dodgeing kid from ohio totally straight and street dumb. Tim Buckleys
songs still haunt the back pages of my mind today.
We all were so reckless back then.Bless him and the others that could not follow.

Thank you for your site. I grew up in Orange County where Time did and remember his music still and often, it drifts into my consciousness in the strangest moments. I was stunned at the great and terrible beauty of it now as I was then and as saddened by the passing of that time and its people. We seem, all of us, like phantoms now, like players in some strange far off dream. Whatever that alchemy was that created me, Tim's musc was an essential element of it. He just wrenched your heart open and there was nothing you could do about it.
Tim was(as you know) very special while alive and
now lives on with his soulful and timeless recordings... 25 years ago seems like yesterday because of his music and the strong memories associated..."just because" I introduced tim's "greetings from L.A." to a couple of empowered women, I felt like I owed Tim a special thanks....cause I scored large...how come I missed this listed album on your album review list...thanks (for this site) and we'll chat again...Leo at: unicycleo@rogers.com
in 1968 i was having a tough time on an acid trip when i saw the hello goodbye in a window. i play guitar and had met jimi hendrix by then. the feeling i had when i saw his face was one of just letting my hassles melt away. from that moment on i had a 'good trip'. i saw tim at the electric circus in nyc. and had no idea his guitar was bigger than he!

I am 46 years old and somehow I completely missed Tim Buckley until 6 months ago. Since, I have collected everything he ever did. For the last six months he is all I can listen to. I am astonished every time I hear him. No musician has ever impressed me more. I have grieved my divorce through him and his beautiful, melencholy music which seems as if it was written only yesterday. How could the greatest singer/musician/songwriter slip under the radar for so many years?
Spread the word!

IT'S BEEN ON MY WANTS LIST FOR YEARS - FINALLY GOT IT THE OTHER DAY "STARSAILOR" BY TIM BUCKLEY - THE FINAL MISSING CD IN THE T.B. COLLECTION.
I THINK ALL HIS ALBUMS ARE BRILLIANT - CAN'T PICK A FAVOURITE - MY FIRST EXPOSURE WAS IN THE MID 80'S ON A 4 LP SET CALLED "ELEKTROCK" - ELEKTRA IN THE 1960'S (NOTHING BY THE DOORS,STRANGE!) 2 LPS OF VARIOUS ARTISTS AND 2 LPS OF ONE SIDE EACH BY THE STOOGES,MC5,LOVE AND TIM BUCKLEY.MY ONLY FAULT WITH THAT SET WAS ALTHOUGH NO DOORS SEEMED AN OBVIOUS OMMISSION,THE MC5 TRACKS WERE FROM THE SAME ALBUM (KICK OUT THE JAMS) WHICH I ALREADY HAD,WHICH WAS THE ONLY ELEKTRA ALBUM BY THAT BAND.IT WAS AN EXPENSIVE SET AND I'D REPEATED A WHOLE SIDE OF IT!!
DESPITE WHAT I THINK OF TIM BUCKLEY,I THINK THIS MORTAL COIL'S "SONG TO THE SIREN" TOTALLY ECLIPSES HIS OWN VERSION....AND I ALWAYS USED TO SAY I DIDN'T APPROVE OF COVER VERSIONS!! I EVEN LIKED THE RECENT RAVE SONG WHICH FEATURED SNIPPETS OF IT CALLED "DID I DREAM"

Thx for your nice pages
My contribution, some lyrics missing in'Goodbye and Hello':
I Can't See You
Summer princess, midnight maiden
When I first saw you I just breathed
Into your smile my past went fadin'
Inside your voice, my mind was sheathed
In lost lagoon, we waited, wadin'
Along the streets we went paradin'
Never looking back to where we'd been
Autumn temptress, sundown angel
Inside your blood you aren't so young
I came to you a loving vandal
And heard your heart and touched your tongue
Day became a lighted candle
Sky fell down beneath your sandal
In your eye I began to spin
Winter harlot, moontime lover
I can't speak when I feel this way
Don't keep your feelings undercover
Tell me what you want today
Don't leave me in the air to hover
Sing it out don't make me suffer
Don't be ashamed love is no sin
Springtime woman, sunrise girl
I am hiding behind the sea
Trick or treat, the Hallowe'en world
Hide and seek but you can't catch me
I won't chase you until you hurl
Your wing to me, and make me twirl
You're alive underneath my skin
Just for you with your open hands
Waiting for the touch of man
Clutching with your blackened gloves
You try to capture all the doves
That flee into
The forest before you
You wish to catch and cage me now
I wonder if you remember how
Hard it was to say the names
Of mirror dreams and cheated games
And on the wall
You framed your first lover
Your form intrigues me with the glow
I'll remember you I know
Though I forgot to lock the chain
Around you with a prayer for rain
To bring the call
To drive you back into my bed
Ahhh....
She turns away
Telling me to follow for a while
Ahhh....
She waits
You'd be touched if you would touch
But you only reach and taunt
Will my taste stay grey and blue
If I try to turn from you
Song Of The Magician
When I sing I can't bring everything on the wing
Flying down from dizzy air
To the ground because I care
You will be love and your love will live
When I smile I beguile all the while every mile
As I walk across the sky
of the clockwork of your eye
You will be love and your love will live
Casting spells from the well I can tell you the bells
listen to my magic voice
Learn the tune of children's toys
You will be love and your love will live
When I die do not cry hear my sigh passing by
after I have turned to win
I will try to help you then
You will be love and your love will live
Strange street affair under blue
Just for you with your open hands
Waiting for the touch of man
Clutching with your blackened gloves
You try to capture all the doves
That flee into
The forest before you
You wish to catch and cage me now
I wonder if you remember how
Hard it was to say the names
Of mirror dreams and cheated games

You framed your first lover
Your form intrigues me with the glow

She turns away
Telling me to follow for a while
Ahhh....
She waits
You'd be touched if you would touch
But you only reach and taunt
Will my taste stay grey and blue
If I try to turn from you
She is
She is the day that gives me time to live and linger love my life
Till night comes on with sundown scythe to end the puzzled pantomime
She is a day of love
She is the bridge on which I wait to watch the river 'neath me flow
All spinning surging far below along the deep and ending straights
She is a bridge of love
She is the air I breathe entranced, awake, asleep in ?star??? calm
A wind to wash my lifted palm, a sky that calls me out to dance
She is the air of love
She is the day through which I walk toward the bridge where she stands
She is the air I breathe to sing, she is a smile without demands
She is a smile that keeps me warm with matchless laughter, eyes ablaze

Thank You so much for putting this up it really is great to remember one of the very best there ever was. Also very helpful when trying to settle arguments about who actually wrote things when your the only one old enough to know it was written by Tim

Anxiety and Medication
Many a time it happens that people complain us that we have not been treating them well, or may be our attitude has changed, or that we keep on shouting at others without any solid reason, we may just burst into tears and take everybody by surprise due to trivial impediments. When ever any situation like this crops up in our life and continues for a long time, it definitely makes our mental state more restless and worrisome. At times we may also feel that this is not ‘I’--the same person, who has become so irritable for others now.
Even though we may realize that there’s something wrong with us, some strong nervous disorder like anxiety or depression, but still may be shy to go and visit a physician or a psychiatrist, just because we may not be comfortable to go and see the physician personally and talk about our mental state. Recently I came to know that there are such sites who not only get you physically and neurotically examined by their own team of doctors but also prescribe the required dosages of the anti anxiety drug http://www.buy-xanax-online-now.com (xanax), online.
So isn’t it really great that your prescription is requested online and you don’t need to see your regular doctor. Your personal information stays personal and your local pharmacist or physician won’t even know about it! Moreover you would have to pay just for the required dosages of http://www.buy-xanax-online-now.com (xanax) and no consultation fee for consulting the physician. So don’t shy away to get yourself treated for your anxiety. http://www.buy-xanax-online-now.com (Buy xanax online) now and forget about the complaints of your changed behavior from your near and dear ones. Lead a normal carefree life as earlier.

tony

Hi there. I used to play Get On Top for women I was interested in back in 1983 when I was university. I loved that song. I haven't heard it in a donkey's age, but it still swirls around in my head from time-to-time. I never knew anything about Tim - and just enjoyed reading his biography. I didn't see anything specific about Get On Top there. Is there a story attached to that song? Anyway, good on you for putting this website together. It's inspired me to go look for more of Tim's music. Cheers from Sydney, Nova Scotia. Peter Ross

'Goodbye and Hello' was the discovery of a small group of disenchanted teenagers in Amherst, NY. Buckley's was a distant and unearthly voice that somehow transcended the psychedelic nonsense of the lyrics of the album and rang through the loathsome high school hallways like an ancestral spirit. That record grounded us, hearing our own pain and disillusion in Buckley's wail. I'd spin that record and get the clarity of knowing that I wasn't the only fractured soul scarred and scared by the human condition. Tim Buckley was real--real art, real pain, real love and real hate. He was, somehow, a real friend I'd never met.

I am doing what will probably be 2 one hour radio shows on Tim Buckley for the InTouch Networks- a station for the blind, visually impaired and otherwise disabled. I have immersed myself in his music for the last few days, and it doesn't seem possible to talk about him and play his music in just one hour. So, I will try and undoubtedly prevail, on making this a two-parter.
I was just getting into the beginnings of progressive fm rock when I first heard that musical instrument of a voice he had. Never forgot it- never forgot him.
Thanks and good luck,
Mike Pell
